Cleaning and Prevention in Los Gatos, CA

Did you know that both our physical and oral health are directly or indirectly interrelated to each other? This is why most of the time you have been asked to maintain proper oral health to balance the health of your body.

Cleaning and Prevention: At Home

Good oral hygiene always begins in our home. We always follow three simple oral routines to keep our teeth and gums healthy and sturdy. These three oral routines are:

  • Brush your teeth with a soft-bristle toothbrush and a pea-sized toothpaste two times per day at least, as recommended by American Dental Association (ADA). While brushing, everyone follows a pattern. Some begin by brushing the outer side of the teeth and then moving ahead with other areas, whereas some brush the molars first and then move forward to other areas. No matter what your brushing pattern is, you should always spend two minutes in this process.
  • Like brushing, flossing is also very important in our daily dental routine. One should floss at least once a day to eliminate food debris from the areas that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush.
  • The last step involves rinsing. Rinse your mouth with water to ensure that all the harmful bacteria are eliminated. You can also use a fluoride mouthwash to prevent gum infections.

However, at-home care is not enough to keep your teeth healthy. Hence, you should consider routine dental checkups twice a year too. Let’s move further to know what you can expect in your regular visit to a dentist.

In-Office Preventive Treatment

During your routine dental checkup, your dentist will perform the following procedures:

Oral Cancer Screening

During your dental visit, your dentist will first review your medical history and check for any underlying changes in your mouth. This process is important because determining early symptoms of oral cancer saves a lot of people’s lives.

Teeth Cleaning

We all want our teeth to shine brighter and whiter. Here, your dental professional will help to maintain your optimal health by performing teeth cleaning procedures. Though we practice dental care at home, it is always good to sometimes get a professional cleaning. A cleaning eliminates plaque and tartar, as well as allows the dentist to examine your gums for signs of periodontal diseases. Then, the dentist will polish your teeth to make them look brighter.

Periodontal Therapy

Tooth loss among adults is primarily caused by gum disease. Therefore, to prevent you from losing a single tooth, the dentist can provide you with a targeted, strategic cleaning schedule along with instructions for a preventive home care regimen. It helps you in eliminating chronic diseases.
